Magical water – no garden can live without it. Whether it sprinkles down from the sky or pools on the ground soaking our thirsty plants, water is one of a garden’s necessities. Drift is no different. This top down shawl with gorgeous texture and shifting colors is a must for your casual wardrobe.
Another gradient – but Drift is special to me because it is the culmination of several ideas that didn’t work separately, but came together in one delicious yarn!
Here are the details:
Blocked measurements: 60 inches wing span and 33 inches deep at longest point
1100 yards lace weight gradient yarn.
Model uses YOTH yarns Mother (100% Domestic Rambouillet Wool; 3.5 oz / 100g = 550 yards/503m)in colorways Spring Water, Blue Raspberry, Blueberry and Caviar.
US size D/3 (3.25 mm ) or size needed for gauge
Approximately 7 shell repeats and 8 rows = 4 inches (blocked)
What I love about Drift is that it is an easily memorizable 6 row repeat. Since the shawl is made from the top down, you can use any yarn – and weight, and any color or gradient and get a gorgeous shawl! Just add or subtract repeats to get the size you want. Want it to be a one ball shawl? It can be done!
YOTH Yarns are new to me, and relatively new to the market as well! They are based in Woodinville, WA (Just about 10 minutes from my house), so very, very local to me. I met “Big Sister” Veronika at a lunch and knit/crochet day at one of my stitcher’s homes last year. I got to see some of her yarns up close and being the lace weight lover, I immediately fell in love with Mother. It is a little heavier than true lace weight, but the drape is stunning!
What is cool about using Mother for this shawl is that I only used ½ skein of each color. So you can actually make 2 shawls out of 4 hanks of the yarn. Not a bad deal! When I wound out this yarn I used a Russian join for each new color so I didn’t have to join the normal way. So I had 2 gradient balls of yarn and just kept going without worrying about how when to stop to change colors. Makes for a faster project while you are crocheting it.
Enjoy Drift! And don’t forget to follow Veronika on Instagram too!
