Scheduling Classes

Education is my favorite part of this business. Much of my time is either developing new classes or in classrooms sharing knowledge with students all over the country.

As an instructor, I am noted as an organized and clear teacher.  I pace the classes so that there is a balance between lecture and work time. I am very hands on so I like to give enough time to walk around and help students as needed. I offer both technique classes and project classes to allow for a variety of options. In addition, I am happy to talk about class customizing, arrange for a book signing and/or trunk show of my patterns and books. Just ask about the options when you inquire.

Class lengths range from 3 to 6 hours. The longer classes are designed to enable the students to continue lesson between sessions in order to be ready at the start of the next session. They are also designed to allow for a larger range of skill sets. Classes include discussion, handouts, and worksheets which will allow for the student to continue the project outside the classroom.

Student Comments

I have been taking private crocheting lessons from Karen for a while now. I first met her when I took her beginner’s crochet class at Great Yarns in Everett, WA. I like to learn at my own pace so I approached her about private lessons at that time. She has been an extremely patient, and informative instructor and gets pretty much as excited as I do about anything new that I want to learn. She has always encouraged me to try things on my own but is always there if I get stuck and need some assistance. This is especially helpful when it comes to reading some of the more strangely written crochet patterns out there! She’s taught me a lot and I am sure she will continue to do so in the future as I get better and want to try out new things. Karen’s basically the best crochet instructor I could ask for! I’d recommend her to anyone who wants to learn crochet, or even work on more advanced things. – Jennifer L.

Karen is an excellent instructor who is enthusiastic and brings out the best in her students. Fun, entertaining, and personable, Karen brings skill and knowledge to her students. She is able to set her students at ease and change any apprehension into success. Simply put, she is Great!  – Edwin G.

I have taken several of Karen’s classes at the Crochet Guild of America conferences over the last few years. Every class resulted in my completing a beautiful, wearable item and learning new skills. Karen is a wonderful teacher! Karen’s classes are well organized with excellent handouts and she is very attentive to all of her students and makes sure that everyone is catching on to the techniques presented.  – Edith S.

I’m a self taught crocheter, so I didn’t think I could learn more in a class then I did in a book. So at a CGOA conference I decided to check out a class anyway and see what I might be missing. Karen was my first teacher, and I was not disappointed, she opened my eyes to how much insight you can gain from instruction. She keeps the class engaged, the projects and techniques are well explained in concepts that are understandable and practical. She is well organized and helps you feel comfortable and accomplished! Recommend her classes highly!  – Linda D.
